about

About 28 years ago, I discovered that I could use a computer and a keyboard to sequence and compose music.

3 years after that, I discovered the Future Sound of London while shopping at Tower Records in Austin, Texas.

That began a long and slowly moving quest to get into electronic music production. Over the years I have accumulated a little pile of gear and software, and fits and starts worth of the occasional track.

In 2018, I decided enough was enough, time to actually PURSUE this as opposed to fiddle with it once every 2 years. I signed up for February Album Writing Month (FAWM), to try to produce 14 tracks in 28 days.

I failed.

Here is my failure: all 7 tracks of it. Seven Tracks of learning, exploring, and cramming a music theory course into my full adult life featuring a wife, a child, a job, and other hobbies and commitments. I even did different styles of music, to try to find my voice (in some cases, quite literally).

The final step was to set myself up here as a hobbyist and occasional vendor of steadily improving content.

This month has a been a whirlwind of learning and experimentation. If you care to support my future adventures in this regard, I will gratefully and humbly accept your support.

released February 28, 2018

Reason, Ableton Live, Reaper, Novation Circuit/SuperNova/Nocturn 25, Mackie, and a Roland A70. Countless youtube videos and tutorials, and I must give a shoutout to Dr. Jason Allen, my most recent music theory teacher (www.udemy.com/user/janthonyallen/).

Plus my lovely wife and daughter, without whose support I don't think I would have pushed myself to give this a go.

Finally: I must credit FAWM, just for existing. I heard about them years ago, and finally made a place in my life to go just TRY IT.

So: GO TRY IT. fawm.org (ORG! Not COM!)

about

bri4n Texas

Well here I am, trying to be better at this craft that has fascinated and intrigued me for over 30 years. I started in High School with piano, stumbled into a bootleg sequencer program back when BBSs were what was the Internet, and, finally, am coming home to put some actual effort into this interest of mine to get better and make stuff others enjoy. ... more
